This is the dedicated glass chimney for Vapalux lanterns. Also known as hoya glass. It acts as a windshield, with its main role being to protect the fragile mantle from external damage.
Continuing to use a damaged mantle will damage this glass chimney. Don't forget to check the mantle before lighting.
