About Rubberwood:
Rubberwood trees are grown on large plantations in Southeast Asia to harvest the milky-white sap that is the raw material for natural rubber. This is done by making cuts in the bark of mature trees and letting the sap drip out.
However, after about 25-30 years, the amount of latex a tree produces drops significantly. In the past, felled rubberwood trees were simply incinerated. Today, though, the wood from felled rubberwood trees is recycled and used for a variety of purposes, most notably furniture, toys, and kitchenware.
Wood is a renewable resource, and even though this product is manufactured in Asia, its overall greenhouse gas impact is smaller than that of, for example, a plastic product.
Wooden products require some care. If you hand wash and dry them promptly, they can be used for generations. They are also best for the environment.
